Abstract
The generation and propagation of a REB through a thin foil into a pla sma column has been studied numerically. Two types of electron scatter ing by the anode foil have been compared. The first one is the multipl e scattering of fast electrons by atomic nuclei. The second one arises when the magnetic field lines are discontinuous on a vacuum-plasma bo undary. It has been pointed out that these two types of scattering str ongly affect the excitation of two stream instability.
