DTA, TPR, X-ray phase analysis, and magnetic susceptibility measuremen
ts were employed to investigate the interactions in NiO-MoO3 (MoO2) sy
stems upon thermal treatment in air and H-2. The presence of NiO decre
ases the starting temperature of MoO, reduction by >150 K due to atomi
c H spillover from Ni to MoO3. At the same time, the retardation of Ni
O reduction takes place at 573 - 623 K, as a result of NiMox alloy for
mation. This retardation is not observed for NiO + MoO, samples, and t
he NiMo, alloy is formed after quantitative NiO reduction. TPR profile
s for impregnated NiO/MoO3 depend on the temperature of precalcination
in an He flow.
