Abstract
A FORTRAN computer program was developed to simulate packing of spheri cal particles via a Monte Carlo procedure. Shrinkage in volume upon mi xing different particle sizes was studied and simulated results were c ompared with experimental data. Maximum experimental shrinkage was obt ained when the proportion of coarse and fine sand was closely reproduc ed by means of simulation. Particle size distribution appears to be th e most important factor in relation to shrinkage and also in the estab lishment of relationships between the simulated the experimental syste m.
