Rn. White, A MODIFIED TECHNIQUE FOR SURGICAL REPAIR OF ESOPHAGEAL HIATAL HERNIATION IN THE DOG, Journal of Small Animal Practice, 34(12), 1993, pp. 599-603
The surgical repair of oesophageal hiatal herniation in five dogs is d
escribed. The initial presenting signs included regurgitation, vomitin
g, hypersalivation, anorexia, coughing, dyspnoea and exercise intolera
nce. Diagnosis was based upon the clinical signs, plain radiography an
d contrast fluoroscopic examination. The hernias were corrected by a h
iatal plication technique which moved the diaphragmatic oesophagus to
a new anatomical position, a 360-degrees oesophagopexy and a proximal
fundic gastropexy. Surgical results were considered excellent in all c
ases.
