A numerical study is carried out for the steady turbulent free convect
ion in a two-dimensional open square cavity with and without surface r
adiation. The flow medium is air, and the used turbulence model is the
Low-Reynolds-Number k - epsilon scheme taking into account the buoyan
cy and variable property effects. The velocity, temperature and turbul
ent kinetic energy fields, the averaged Nusselt numbers and the radiat
ion portion in combined heat transfer at different overheat ratioes an
d Rayleigh numbers are presented and discussed to demonstrate the radi
ation effects on the turbulent flow and heat transfer characteristics.
