A thru-tubing inflatable permanent cement retainer has recently been d
eveloped to selectively squeeze cement without pulling the production
tubing or killing the well. The system has been run successfully on co
iled tubing through 73 mm tubing and set in 177.8 mm casing. Due to th
e performance limitations of the inflatable cement retainer, unconvent
ional methods were used to inflate the tool and perform a hesitation c
ement squeeze. The paper will discuss equipment and procedures used to
selectively squeeze off water production on two wells in the Kaybob S
outh field in Central Alberta. Both wells are gas producers from a sou
r, under-pressured, carbonate formation.
