Mn. Koshlyakov et al., ICEBERGS ALONG 67-DEGREES-S IN THE PACIFI C SECTOR OF THE ANTARCTIC IN FEBRUARY - MARCH OF 1992, Okeanologia, 33(6), 1993, pp. 816-823
The paper contains results of iceberg observations on a section along
67-degrees-S in the Pacific sector of the Antarctica carried out by R/
V ''Akademik Ioffe'' in February - March of 1992 in the framework of t
he international programme WOCE. The main results are very sharp nonho
mogeneity of the iceberg distribution along the section and very big n
umber of icebergs on the eastern part of the section. The last circums
tance could be explained by the coincidens of the positions of the sec
tion and of an intensified jet of the Antarctic Circumpolar Current. A
t the same time the results of some simultaneous (with the above menti
oned measurements) oceanographical, meteorological and glaciological o
bservations in the western part of the Atlantic sector of the Antarcti
ca and in the Antarctic peninsula area don't exclude a possible conclu
sion of the general increase of iceberg number in a large antarctic re
gion as a result of coming of an anomaly warm period in this part of t
he Antarctica.
