Abstract
Among 14 elderly patients (mean age=74.6 years) with first-episode man ia who were followed for 3 to 10 years, melt had a higher risk of mort ality. Compared to 36 elderly patients with multiple episodes of mania , patients with first-episode mania were twice as likely to have a com orbid neurological disorder (71% [N=10] versus 28% [N=10]). Mania in t he elderly appears to be a heterogeneous disorder.
