Abstract
Renal colic, severe pain in the flank or kidney area, is a typical sym ptom caused by kidney and/or ureteral stones. This report presents the results of the treatment of 38 renal colic patients with an improved acupuncture protocol. Complete relief of pain was attained in 100% of the study subjects (most within 3 to 5 minutes after the last needle w as inserted), and expulsion of stones in 89.5%. The authors believe th at acupuncture therapy is, at present, the therapy of choice for such intense pain.
