Hw. Liu et al., STUDY OF THE PERFORMANCE AND KINETICS OF AEROBIC BIOLOGICAL TREATMENTOF A CTMP EFFLUENT, Pulp & paper Canada, 94(12), 1993, pp. 172-177
Aerobic biodegradation of a CTMP effluent was studied in the laborator
y under a very wide range of conditions to assess the treatment perfor
mance and establish the kinetics parameters. Very high removals of BOD
5 and resin and fatty acids from the effluent together with good sludg
e settling can be achieved using short treatment time. Biodegradation
of the effluent follows first order reaction. The sludge yield and oxy
gen requirement coefficients found for the fixed conditions studied we
re 0.54 mg MLSS and 0.36 mg O2 per mg of BOD5 removed, respectively. T
he temperature coefficient found for estimating the overall oxygen tra
nsfer coefficient was 1.028.
