Abstract
This paper presents the results of numerical simulation of two-dimensi onal cross flow past a circular cylinder. The cylinder is subject to i n-line oscillations of large amplitude and low frequency including bot h the cases for which the ratio LAMBDA of mean to oscillatory velocity is less than one and those where LAMBDA is greater than one. Transver se force time-histories given by the numerical simulations are compare d with the predictions of a quasi-steady transverse force equation for a cylinder towed through waves.
