THE expression of the 25(OH) vitamin D-3 24-hydroxylase gene was studi
ed in C6 glioma and rat primary glial cell culture. The expression of
the 25(OH)D-3 24-hydroxylase gene was not detected in C6 glioma or gli
al cells cultured in a serum-free medium. However, the 25(OH)D-3 24-hy
droxylase mRNA was induced in a dose-dependent manner in cells treated
with 1,25(OH)(2)D-3. These findings provide further evidence for an i
nvolvement of vitamin D-3 metabolites in brain function.
