Ag. Tkachenko et Aa. Chudinov, PARTICIPATION OF PUTRESCINE IN THE ANTIPORT MECHANISM OF POTASSIUM-TRANSPORT IN ESCHERICHIA-COLI, Current microbiology, 28(2), 1994, pp. 81-83
Alkalinization of culture medium is accompanied by a considerable incr
ease in the putrescine production by Escherichia coli and its efflux i
n the environment. Existence of the reversible putrescine (+2)/2K(+) e
xchange was shown under conditions of inhibition and energy limitation
of the main potassium transport systems. It is assumed that this exch
ange serves as an alternative mechanism of potassium transport for pro
viding continuous functioning of K+/H+ antiporter.
