Catalysts were prepared by reducing ternary oxide systems NiO/SiO2-MO2
(where M = Ti, Zr, and Ce) synthesized by the alkoxide method, and th
eir surface and catalytic (benzene hydrogenation) properties were inve
stigated. The effect of SMSI on the increase of reduction temperature
was revealed as: (1) a rise in the fraction of reactive chemisorbed ox
ygenic species capable of interacting with H-2; (2) a decrease of surf
ace magnetic susceptibility changes upon O2 chemisorption; and (3) a s
harp drop in catalytic activity. The increase in the reduction tempera
ture did not affect the bonding energy or the quantity of H-2 chemisor
bed.
