Vv. Romanovskaya et al., RUTHENIUM DISPERSION AND VALENCE STATE CHANGES IN THE RU GAMMA-AL2O3 FILM CATALYST UNDER HEATING/, Kinetics and catalysis, 34(2), 1993, pp. 291-294
Differences in ruthenium's valence state and distribution over the sup
port in Ru/gamma-Al2O3 and Ru-Al2O3/gamma-Al2O3 catalysts were reveale
d by electron microscopy, electron and X-ray diffraction, and XPS meth
ods. Preparation of Ru-Al2O3/gamma-Al2O3 film catalysts by thermal dec
omposition of aluminum resinate and RuCl3 at the support surface (gamm
a-Al2O3) allows one to attain a higher dispersion and a more uniform d
istribution of ruthenium, predominantly in the thin subsurface layer o
f support granules, than in the Ru/gamma-Al2O3 CatalYSt prepared via s
upport impregnation by a RUCl3 SolUtion. Moreover, more complete Ru re
duction to the metal state occurs in Ru-Al2O3/gamma-Al2O3 due to metal
-support bond weakening.
