Abstract
Based on the experiences obtained during the 1980's, prevalence of ani mal parasitoses was surveyed by a questionnaire method in Hungary. Twe nty-six information places - 19 county veterinary stations, 5 veterina ry diagnostic institutes, 1 slaughterhouse and 1 animal clinic - parti cipated in the survey (Table 1). Of the 73 parasitoses named on the qu estionnaire, 68 (93.1%) occurred in Hungary: 20 parasitoses were gener ally, 25 moderately and 23 less frequently prevalent (Table 2). Among the most generally occurring parasitoses were fasciolosis, dicrocoelio sis, taeniosis, coenurosis, ascariosis, lungworm infections, syngamosi s, scabies, demodicosis. Prevalence of larval echinococcosis in pig de creased to 1%, on an average, its incidence was less frequent in sheep and cattle. As a result of the campaign against bovine hypodermosis, the infection rate of 4% observed in 1973 decreased to 0.02% by 1990. However, psoroptic mange of sheep and cattle did not decrease. Demodic osis was mainly diagnosed in dogs, but it was also prevalent in cats. Varroosis of honey bees is generally wide-spread. Acarapis woodi infes tation, however, has not been observed since 1986 in Hungary. The stud y comprised also the territorial (Table 3) and host animal distributio n of parasitoses (Table 4).
