Abstract
Indigenous intestinal microflora are known to afford protection agains t colonization by pathogenic microorganisms. However, the metabolic ac tivity of at least one species of the indigenous microflora can induce expression of surface glycoconjugates, which may in turn confer susce ptibility to infection.
