Three cases of long QT-interval due to halofantrine were documented in
1992 in France. Two of them had a congenital long QT-interval (Romano
-Ward syndrome). We performed a prospective study of cardiac monitorin
g in 20 patients taking halofantrine. Minimal ECG changes were noted w
ith lengthening of the QT-interval. Systematic ECG is necessary before
giving halofantrine.
