Abstract
Study of the presence of amyloid deposits on subcutaneous fat aspirate s was carried out in 100 patients hospitalized in a geriatric unit. Th e test was positive in 15%, and in 4% of them, amyloid deposits were a lso seen on accessory salivary glands, confirmed by immunohistochemica l staining. These results indicate that sub-cutaneous fat aspirate may be a useful test for an early diagnosis of amyloidosis.
