We report a case of a hip osteoarthritis due to S. typhimurium in a pa
tient without predisposing factors. The outcome was unsatisfactory in
spite of early diagnosis and treatment; a relapse occured after 6 week
s of treatment when changed to single third generation cephalosporin.
A combination of antibiotics including a fluoroquinolone and multiple
articular lavages seems to be the more appropriate treatment for this
type of infection.
