M. Rojas et al., CARDIAC MANIFESTATIONS OF PHOSPHOLIPID AN TIBODY SYNDROME - STUDY OF 2 CASES, Annales de cardiologie et d'angeiologie, 42(10), 1993, pp. 561-565
Cardiac manifestations of phospholipid antibody syndrome may include m
itral and/or aortic valve disease, pseudo-infectious endocarditis, thr
ombi of the right atrium, myocardial infection, pulmonary artery hyper
tension and cardiomyopathy with global or segmental left ventricular d
ysfunction. The authors report two patients showing evidence simultane
ously of a circulating anticoagulant, dissociated syphilis serology an
d cardiolipin antibodies at a very high level. They had the majority o
f cardiac complications described in phospholipid antibody syndrome. B
oth also had renal involvement and one of them had recurrent Venous th
romboses and a cerebrovascular accident. Prolonged corticosteroid trea
tment, combined with anticoagulants in one patient, was accompanied by
stability of lesions with follow-up of five years and ten months resp
ectively.
