G. Bazan et al., AL-26 PRODUCTION IN AGB STARS AND 1809-MEV LINE EMISSION IN THE GALAXY, Revista Mexicana de Astronomia y Astrofisica, 27, 1993, pp. 87-90
We describe the nucleosynthesis of Al-26 in hot-bottom burning convect
ive envelopes of intermediate mass AGB stars. Using a schematic model
of AGB star evolution, we calculate Al-26 yields for AGB stars of diff
erent initial masses and metallicities, and these are employed in an e
quilibrium chemical evolution model. The intensity of the 1.809 MeV li
ne emission resulting from the residual Al-26 in the interstellar medi
um is calculated as a function of longitude in the galactic plane. Emi
ssivity distributions corresponding to observed distributions of AGB s
tars and a star forming spiral galaxy describable by spiral density wa
ve theory are considered.
