Organotin(IV) complexes of ylidenemalonates (R(x)Sn)x-1(O2C)2C = C(SR'
)2 (R = n-C4H9, C6H5, cyclo-C6H11, CH3OOCCH2CH2; x = 2,3; R' = CH3, R2
' = -CHCH-, -CH2CH2-) have been synthesized and characterized by means
of various spectroscopic methods. The X-ray crystal structure of (Ph3
Sn)2(O2C)2C=C(SCH3)2 has been determined (Pi; a = 9.704(2) angstrom, b
= 14.412 (1) angstrom, c = 14.760(3) angstrom, alpha = 74.26(1)-degre
es, beta = 99.38(l)-degrees, gamma = 79.09(l)-degrees, V = 1950.7(7) a
ngstrom3) and refined to R = 0.045. The crystal structure discloses a
discrete molecule with bidentate-like carboxylate ligand. For diorgano
tin analogues, the structures are discussed in terms of IR, H-1-NMR, C
-13-NMR, and FAB mass spectrometry. The mass spectrum indicates that t
he diorganotin complexes of ylidenemalonates are dimeric.
