Abstract
Speech perception skills were measured in five children who had receiv ed a 3M/House single-channel cochlear implant and were subsequently up graded to a multichannel cochlear implant (Nucleus). A rationale was d eveloped based upon performance with the single-channel device and ant icipated performance with the multichannel device. All subjects demons trated improved acoustic thresholds with the multichannel device. Thre e of the children demonstrated improvements on identification tasks an d two on word recognition tasks.
