H. Kucerova et J. Chaloupka, NETROPSIN SUPPRESSES DEVELOPMENT OF INTRACELLULAR SERINE PROTEINASE ACTIVITY DURING POSTEXPONENTIAL GROWTH OF BACILLUS-MEGATERIUM, Folia microbiologica, 38(5), 1993, pp. 360-362
The antibiotic netropsin decreased only slightly the exponential growt
h rate in a medium with mineral salts and glucose but its effect was i
ncreased during postexponential growth. Protein turnover and the basal
intracellular serine proteinase (ISP) activity in the crude cytoplasm
ic fraction were not significantly affected by netropsin during expone
ntial growth. However, ISP activity increased during postexponential g
rowth and its rise was inhibited by the antibiotic. The population in
the postexponential phase was not committed to sporulation.
