Ca. Peixoto et W. Desouza, FREEZE-FRACTURE CHARACTERIZATION OF THE CUTICLE OF ADULT AND DAUER FORMS OF CAENORHABDITIS-ELEGANS, Parasitology research, 80(1), 1994, pp. 53-57
At the ultrastructural level, a trilaminate structure, designated as t
he epicuticle, is always present on the outermost surface of the nemat
ode Caenorhabditis elegans. The freeze-fracture technique revealed the
existence of two fracture faces: an inner face that showed homogeneou
sly distributed particles and an outer fracture face that was almost c
ompletely smooth in adult nematodes but appeared delicately granular i
n the dauer forms.
