Abstract
Bis(sulfido-bridged) Fe4S4 dimer, [PPh(4)](2)[{Fe4S4(SPh)(2)}(2)(mu-S) (2)], can be prepared and isolated from the reaction of the 2:2 site-d ifferentiated iron-sulfur cluster, [PPh(4)](2)[Fe4S4 (OPh)(2) (SPh)(2) ], with hexamethyldisilathiane. H-1-NMR, UV/visible, infrared and Moss bauer spectroscopies and conductivity measurements unambiguously chara cterise the dimeric product and show it to be both homogeneous and pur e. The bridged-cluster has features similar to those of the Fe8S8 P-cl uster of molybdenum nitrogenase.
