IDENTIFICATION OF INFECTIVE LARVAE OF SOME COMMON NEMATODE STRONGYLIDS OF HORSES

The morphology of infective larvae of Strongylus vulgaris, Strongylus equinus, Strongylus edentatus, Triodontophorus spp., Poteriostomum spp . and Gyalocephalus capitatus infective larvae (L3) are examined. Morp hometric data (total length, width, intestinal and esophageal length) of those larvae harvested from faecal cultures allow their differentia tion in six distinct groups. Two in vitro cultivation media were exper imented to obtain infective larvae of Cylicocyclus radiatus, Cylicocyc lus nassatus, Cylicostephanus minutus and Cylicostephanus poculatus L3 . A key for identification with photomicrographs is also provided to a ssist identification of the studied larvae.
