A half-space governed by the equations of thermoelasticity with two re
laxation times is considered. The bounding plane is acted upon by a co
mbination of a thermal and a mechanical shock acting for a finite peri
od of time. Laplace transform techniques together with the method of p
otentials are used. The transforms are inverted analytically using asy
mptotic expansions valid for short times to obtain the temperature and
stress distributions. Numerical results are obtained and illustrated
graphically for a particular case.
