An effective microscopic model for the dynamics of spreading is consid
ered within the class of solidon-solid models. The dynamics is of Kawa
saki type, which implies local conservation of matter. Experimental re
sults are presented and compared with microscopic simulations. The gen
eral agreement between the observations and this microscopic model is
very satisfactory.
