Sheen and Johnston have derived a theoretical expression for the inten
sity autocorrelation function of a synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imag
e based on the product model for SAR clutter, see also the 1986 work b
y Ulaby et al. This derivation is valid under the assumption that the
instrument function width is narrow relative to the width of the textu
re autocorrelation function. This communication draws attention to a m
ore general derivation of the intensity autocorrelation function, give
n by Oliver, which does not require this assumption.
