Abstract
This paper gives a brief review of the theoretical and methodological work of the staff at the State Optical Institute (GOI) in the area of computational optics from the founding of GOI to the present. The feat ures of the software for automated design of optical systems currently being used at GOI on BESM-6, VAX and PC AT computers are described.
