BLENDS OF AN AMORPHOUS COPOLYESTER WITH POLY (BUTYLENE TEREPHTHALATE)

The compatibility behaviour of melt-mixed blends of an amorphous copol yester (PETG) with poly(butylene terephthalate) (PET) was investigated over the complete composition range. The techniques applied were dyna mic mechanical analysis (DMA), DSC, tensile testing, optical and elect ronic microscopy (SEM). DMA, DSC and large deformation behaviour indic ated amorphous component miscibility in quenched blends. Morphology ex amination corroborated these findings. Composition dependence of PBT c rystallinity was in line with the findings reported for other amorphou s polyester/PBT blends. The results were rationalized using solubility parameter and mean field theory miscibility predictive schemes. (C) 1 997 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
