Abstract
UV irradiation of ethisterone (1) and norethisterone (2) in the solid state yielded one photoproduct each: 17,20-epoxy-17xiH-pregna-4,20-die ne-3-one (3) and the dimerization product ,21]bipregnayl-4,20,4'-trien -20'-in-3,17,3'-trione (4), respectively. Compounds 3 and 4 were chara cterized by their spectral and analytical data and further confirmed b y the molecular packing of 1 and 2 in the crystal, as shown by X-ray c rystallography.
