Abstract
Over the last decade, utilization management in the behavioral health field has impacted significantly on the process of clinical decision-m aking. This paper presents a model study to test the impact of utiliza tion management on cost and illness outcome in a population of employe es receiving psychiatric care. Theoretical and practical implications of such a study are discussed.
