A series of new fluorinated poly(1,3,4-oxadiazole-imide-amide)s contai
ning various ratios of amide/oxadiazole groups in the repeating unit h
ave been prepared by cyclodehydration of the corresponding poly(hydraz
ide-imide-amide)s resulting from the reaction of diacid dichlorides in
corporating both hexafluoroisopropylidene bridges and imide rings with
p-aminobenzhydrazide or with mixtures of certain aromatic diamines an
d p-aminobenzhydrazide or terephthalic dihydrazide. The new polymers a
re soluble in polar amidic solvents and can be processed into flexible
films by casting from solution. Their glass transition temperatures a
re in the range 254-325 degrees C and they are thermally stable up to
415-450 degrees C.
