In this series of one surgeon's first 100 cases of endocapsular phacoe
mulsification cataract surgery (EPECS), believed to be the first truly
prospective study of its kind, 86% of patients achieved corrected vis
ion of 6/6 to 6/4; 96% achieved vision of 6/12 or better; and excludin
g those with pre-existing pathology, 99% achieved 6/12. Posterior caps
ular rupture occurred in 11 cases, with vitrectomy being required in e
ight cases. Detailed analysis of the 100 cases is provided.
