Amorphous and magnetically soft Co70.3Si15B10Fe4.7 alloy can be fabric
ated in powder form from fully crystallized glassy ribbons using a low
energy ball milling technique. Magnetic saturation and anisotropy fie
lds of as-milled and annealed powders were measured and compared with
values obtained for amorphous and crystallized ribbons. All magnetic p
roperties of powders are generally similar to those of metallic glassy
ribbons, but can be easily modified by the preparation process. Prolo
nged milling decreases the particle size from 10 to 0.1 mum and an inc
rease in coercivity was observed. Additionally in wet conditions (hexa
ne) and by application of surfactant during the milling process in mat
erial considerable decrease in magnetocrystalline anistropy was found.
