A rubber isostatic pressing (RIP) process has been developed for high-
performance magnets. The combination of high packing density of the po
wder in the rubber-mold cavity and magnetic alignment by a high, pulse
d magnetic field is shown to be essential for obtaining good green com
pacts for sintered magnets having very high energy products. An automa
ted apparatus to implement this technology has been designed and const
ructed. The many advantages of RIP over conventional die pressing incl
ude faster, easier production of magnets with superior magnet properti
es.
