M. Naoe et S. Nakagawa, STRUCTURAL AND MAGNETIC CHARACTERISTICS OF BAFE12O19 ZNO MULTILAYERS BY ARC-DISCHARGE EVAPORATION/, IEEE transactions on magnetics, 29(6), 1993, pp. 3096-3098
Since vacuum-arc evaporation method was useful for preparing oxide fil
ms with high quality at moderate deposition rate, this was applied to
prepare BaFe12O19/ZnO multilayers with sharp periodic structure. The f
ilm consisits of 25 bilayers composed of 120 A BaFe12O19 and 12 angstr
om ZnO layers and showed excellent orientation of c-axis in crystallit
es normal to layer plane. Therefore, they revealed an apparent perpend
icular magnetic anisotropy and exhibited moderately large saturation m
agnetization and properly high coercivity applicable for perpendicular
recording disks. This seemed to originate from the crystalline anisot
ropy along the c-axis of BaFe12O19 crystallites. Orientation of c-axis
normal to film plane might be caused by the c-axis orientation of cry
stallites in ZnO layers.
