Abstract
A two-dimensional axisymmetrical steady-state base thermal model is de veloped for electron beam (EB) melting and refining. A computer simula tion is carried out, according to the proposed model, for various powe rs of EB heat source. Temperature distributions and hear flows in a cy lindrical copper ingot, confined in a copper water-cooled crucible are calculated. The calculated and experimental observed shapes and/or de pths of the metal pools are compared and a reasonable agreement is obs erved. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
