A high-repetition-rate Ti:sapphire-pumped optical parametric oscillato
r based on the new nonlinear optical crystal CsTiOAsO4 is described. T
he operation of this optical parametric oscillator is characterized fo
r a 90 degrees-cut crystal by use of B type II interaction. Tuning fro
m 1.46 to 1.74 mu m is demonstrated, and there is the potential for tu
ning from 0.9 to 5 mu m with angle tuning. Powers of 100 mW in the sig
nal and the idler branches are obtained. Pulse widths as short as 64 f
s are generated with and without prisms in the cavity.
