2-amino-5-methyl-1,3,4-thiadiazole, 2-amino-5-methyl-3H-1,3,4-thiadiaz
olium bromide [(amtzH)(amtz)Br] and his (2,5-diamino-3H-1,3,4-thiadiaz
olium) sulphate [(a(2)tzH)(2)SO4] were prepared and characterized by m
eans of X-ray structural analysis and infrared spectroscopy. The cryst
als of (amtzH)(amtz)Br are monoclinic; space group P2(I)/c, with a=7.6
20(2), b= 17.166(2), c=9.411(2)K, beta=96.34(2)degrees, and Z=4. Its a
symmetric unit contains one proton ated amtzH cation, one neutral amtz
H molecule, and one bromide ion. The crystals of (a(2)tzH)(2)SO4 are m
onoclinic; space group C2/c, with a=11.797(2), b=9.213(2), c=10.720(2)
Angstrom, beta= 91.30(2)degrees, and Z=4. The structure is built up of
one crystallographically independent a(2)tzH cation and one half sulp
hate ion with crystallographically dictated twofold symmetry.
