G. Mairle et al., THE DISTRIBUTION OF PROTON-HOLE STRENGTHS IN THE (2S, 1D)-SHELL OF CL-35, CL-37 AND CL-39, Nuclear physics. A, 565(3), 1993, pp. 543-562
A vector-polarized deuteron beam of 52 MeV was used to excite proton-h
ole states via the (d(over arrow pointing right), He-3) reaction on Ar
-36, Ar-38 and Ar-40. From the measured angular distributions of diffe
rential cross sections sigma(theta) and analyzing powers iT11(theta)we
determined spins and parities J(pi) = 1/2+, 3/2+, 5/2+ and 1/2- of a
number of isolated levels in Cl-35, Cl-37 and Cl-39 and the complete 1
d hole strength distribution in the continuum region. Relative proton
occupancies, single-particle energies, the shape of the Fermi surface
and spreading widths were obtained from a combined analysis with proto
n stripping reactions on even argon isotopes. The deduced Id spin-orbi
t splitting is found to be consistent with the recently observed depen
dence on main quantum number n and mass number A. The mass excess of C
l-39 was determined to be (-29798 +/- 2.8) keV compared to a value of
(-29804 +/- 19) keV as given in the mass tables.
