C. Hirayama et al., PREPARATION OF POROUS SPHERICAL POLY(GAMMA-METHYL L-GLUTAMATE) PARTICLES CONTAINING BETA-STRUCTURE, Polymer Journal, 26(1), 1994, pp. 61-66
Porous poly(gamma-methyl L-glutamate) spherical particles underwent tr
ansition alpha-helix-to-beta-structure in the main chain as a result o
f heat treatment in water or methanol. The particles obtained maintain
ed their sphericity and characteristic porosity after the heat treatme
nt, while the transition increased insolubility against organic solven
ts. The amount of beta-structure depended on the temperature. The tran
sition in water included hydrolysis of the residual carbomethoxy group
s. Adsorption capacity of the particles for cytochrome C depended rema
rkably on the content of beta-structure as well as the amount of carbo
xyl groups produced.
