Electrochemical fluorination of tetra-, penta- and hexa-fluorobenzenes
was carried out at platinum anode at 2.5 V [vs. Ag+(0.01 mol/dm3)/Ag]
in (C2H5)4NF 4.35HF electrolyte. Most amounts of the substrates were
consumed when the electrolytic currents almost fell to the background
current value at 2.1-2.3 F/mol passed. The major products were cyclohe
xadienes produced by 1,4- and 1,2-additions of two fluoride anions to
the substrates. All the cyclohexadienes obtained thus far was both ele
ctrochemically and chemically stable in the electrolysis conditions.
