M. Matsumoto et al., A MULTIOBJECTIVE OPTIMIZATION STRATEGY WITH PRIORITY RANKING OF THE DESIGN OBJECTIVES, Journal of mechnical design, 115(4), 1993, pp. 784-792
Generally, two types of priorities are considered among multiple objec
tives in the design of machine structures. One of these objectives is
named the ''hard objective'' and is the absolutely indispensable desig
n requirement while the other is called ''soft objective'' and has a l
ower priority order. This paper proposes a multiobjective structural o
ptimization strategy with priority ranking of the design objectives. F
urther, this strategy is demonstrated on the actual example of a motor
cycle frame structural design which has three design objectives: (1) a
n increase in static torsional rigidity, (2) a reduction of dynamic re
sponse level, and (3) a decrease in the weight of the motorcycle frame
.
