S. Sugimaru et al., THEORETICAL-ANALYSIS OF THE SUPPRESSION OF SOLIDIFICATION SHRINKAGE FLOW IN CONTINUOUSLY CAST STEEL BLOOMS, Materials science & engineering. A, Structural materials: properties, microstructure and processing, 173(1-2), 1993, pp. 305-308
Theoretical estimation of the reduction of solidifying strand in the c
ontinuous casting of steels is very important for precise control of t
he centre segregation for various steers. In this study, the squeezing
phenomenon in continuously cast steel blooms has been theoretically a
nalysed by taking enrichment of solute elements into consideration to
elucidate an optimum condition for suppressing the solidification shri
nkage now of high carbon steels. It has been found that the effect of
carbon content on the squeezing conditions of the mushy zone is relati
vely small, although the solidification profile becomes longer with th
e increase in carbon content.
