It is shown that the bistable behavior of the sublattice of O(4) apica
l oxygen atoms is responsible for the temperature hysteresis of ultras
onic wave velocity in a high-T(c) compound YBa2Cu3O7-delta observed ex
perimentally in a temperature range of 60 to 270 K.
