Abstract
Anxiety disorders are common in family practice. Although not ideal, t he DSM 3-R definitions of anxiety disorders provide a framework for di agnostic precision that assists physicians in choosing the best treatm ent. Assessing functional status helps determine the need for psychoth erapeutic or pharmacologic intervention. We evaluate specific interven tions and suggest the risks and benefits for each disorder.
